Agar Black for Mycology and Tissue Culturing is a high-contrast culture medium offered in a 1-liter kit format. The dark background is produced with activated carbon and is intended to make light-colored growth, sectoring, and unexpected visual changes easier to observe during lawful laboratory and microscopy work.

Two variants are available: Ready to Use (heat and pour) and Instant (must be mixed and sterilized). The kit includes a 1-liter borosilicate 3.3 media bottle and magnetic stir bar. Follow the instructions supplied with the selected variant and use laboratory practices appropriate to the organism, medium, equipment, and research environment.

The contrast provided by black agar can make visual inspection easier, but appearance alone cannot identify an organism or establish that a culture is uncontaminated. Microscopic examination, appropriate controls, and other validated methods may be necessary depending on the research objective.

Keep containers closed when not in use and inspect the medium, bottle, and closure before handling. Heated glassware and hot media can cause burns, and pressure-based sterilization equipment must be operated according to the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Do not use damaged glassware or create a sealed vessel where pressure can build unexpectedly.
