The 50/40 Cold Trap Kit combines borosilicate laboratory glassware with support hardware for assembling a compatible vapor-condensation setup. The published kit components include a 26-inch laboratory stand, support ring, cold-trap Dewar, round-bottom flask, cork flask holder, metal spring clamp, and cap/lid.
The cold trap is specified with a 50/40 joint and vacuum leads. Its purpose is to provide a cooled region where compatible condensable vapors can be collected before they travel farther through an apparatus. Actual trapping performance depends on the cooling medium, vapor composition and load, operating pressure, system configuration, and procedure. The 50/40 Cold Trap Kit does not guarantee complete vapor capture or a particular recovery percentage.
If dry ice or another low-temperature cooling medium is used, follow appropriate handling procedures and wear suitable protective equipment. Add and remove coolant carefully to reduce thermal shock. Never create a sealed condition in which pressure from warming coolant, vapor, or gas can accumulate unexpectedly.
Inspect the Dewar, flask, joints, vacuum leads, stand, ring, clamp, and other components before use. Chips, cracks, deep scratches, damaged joints, loose hardware, or unstable supports should be corrected before operation. Reduced-pressure performance depends on every glass component, seal, tube, valve, and vacuum source; no undocumented vacuum or pressure rating should be assumed.
